The Service | Ko Te Whare O Toro Mai a Ringa
Toro Mai a Ringa is a partnership with Lakes DHB under the Te Ara Tauwhirotanga model of care. Located within the community in Rotorua, the residence provides support for people who have complex needs beyond the normal capability of residential mental health providers.
The name of our service means "outstretched hands," and we provide a place where people from within the Lakes rohe can rebuild their lives and work towards re-entering their communities.
By utilising different skills, knowledge, and experiences (both personal and professional), and by offering on-going tools and encouragement to develop, grow and flourish, we offer our whai ora the support they need to build daily routines and live the lives they choose.
Role | Nga mahi
In this role you will utilise your skills and knowledge as a Registered Nurse to support the plans for whaiora within the service. This means working alongside Kaimahi (residential/peer support Workers), Seniors, and Team Manager, effectively ensuring the service meets whaiora needs.
You will work directly with the whaiora, identifying strengths, goals, and issues. Along with this you will also be coordinating (key working) allocated whaiora entries, pathways, reviews with external partners, and exits.

- Be registered and have a current practicing certificate in nursing
- Experience in mental health nursing is preferred
- Full NZ Drivers Licence
- Hold a valid/current work visa, residency, or citizenship
- Have client centred, recovery-focused approach. You must unwaveringly believe in people’s ability to progress no matter the obstacles.
- Have knowledge of mental health rehabilitation approaches (e.g., cognitive remediation, psychosocial rehabilitation), experience working with co-occurring addictions and/or cognitive difficulties and knowledge of Māori health approaches would be greatly welcomed.
- Have a passion for walking along side those in need, supporting on-going goals on the pathway to recovery.
