The Community Support Services Central – a specialist service within Ember – is responsible for engaging and supporting people who face challenges with their mental wellbeing. The aim is that all people can engage in their chosen community and achieve their fullest potential. This includes working with the individual as well as a commitment to work actively in partnership with family/ whānau, Community Mental Health Centres and General Practitioners.
The service promotes self-management and self-reliance for all in areas such as accommodation, transport, employment, self-care, personal and interpersonal skills to enable people to live as independently as they can in the community of their choice.
Our geographical area covers people living in Central Auckland, Waiheke Island and West Auckland. The service is for people who face low to severe mental health challenges who are finding it difficult to live in their community, or to reach their desired goals.
Role | Nga mahi
There is a large focus in providing positive and effective leadership in collaboration with the Team Manager and Senior Support Workers. It is a varied role where you will get the opportunity to work closely with the Community Support Workers in a mentoring and coaching role.
As a Registered Health Professional, you will continue with frontline community supports, providing clinical support hours within the Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Waitematā area. As a key member of this dedicated team, you will be familiar with crisis/acute work within the Mental Health Service. Your experience and skills in this sector will stand you in good stead as you appropriately assess and support clients with their wellness and recovery.
Superb communication and interpersonal skills are a must, as you will be liaising with clients, their families/whanau, clinical teams, community agencies and mental health service providers to name a few.

- Be currently registered in either of the following fields:
- Occupational Therapy
- DAPAANZ
- Social Work
- Have experience completing clinical assessments and have a sound clinical practice.
- Have the ability to work in a team environment and from a bicultural perspective.
- Be professional and have good boundaries and ethics.
- Have experience working in the area of mental health and/or addictions (alcohol and other drugs)
- Full NZ Drivers Licence
- Valid/Current work visa, residency, or citizenship
- Have a passion for walking along side those in need, supporting on-going goals on the pathway to recovery.
